NLC Urban Warfare: Cyberjaya Paintball

There was nothing interesting to look forward to this week except for Deen's engagement ceremony and today's paintball session with the NLC lads. There was abit of commotion last night when we found out there the paintball park in Bangi was ruined due to a thunderstorm the evening before. Thanks to the quick action by some of the NLC gang, they managed to get us a place at the Cyberjaya Paintball Park - the training ground of RABAQ, a Division 3 team.

I was the first to arrive amongst the NLC gang and to my very surprised I bumped in to Rabaq. The very last bunch of people I wanted meet that day. I really wished not to be judged today.

The last NLC member arrived and quickly we changed, collected payments, set up teams and did what other paintball teams would do before the game- a photoshoot session.

So what do you get when you give 19 inexperienced paintball players a marker each and you let them loose, running around a field filled with old oil barrel and wooden industrial pallets as protective bunker under the hot blazing sun?

CHAOS.

We started off with a league system, which didn't worked out well for our team despite having a one man advantage, wrapping it up with a 9vs9 capture the flag death match, which also did not went well after the flag suddenly went missing.

The boys seemed to have enjoyed themselves and are planning to make this as a monthly event.

Below are the things that I've learned today:
1. Being the only one in a full paintball suit makes you an easy target.
2. Some of them are Rec Ball regulars; speed is what they don't have.
3. It was quite hard to execute a planned attack against guerilla warfare formation.
4. Warm 100plus sucks.

Restoran Wahab's, The So So Cendol In Town

I didn't want to go home right after the engagement, so I had to come up with a plan to hold everyone a little longer. Even before getting into the car, my brain was working overtime to come with an idea so that my Sunday would not end at 2pm. It was at last exit out to LA's neighbourhood I blurted out "Cendol".

The boys said OK.

We stayed long enough till Deen decided to leave LA's residence and we all headed down to Sri Rampai.

We parked across the street and this was my first time to Wahab's Cendol. They mainly serve Cendol, but they also serve:
-Mee Rebus (13 varieties)
-Nasi Lemak (10 varieties)
-Nasi Ayam (3 varieties)
-Laksa
-Nasi Goreng
-Mee Hoon
-and the usual fried dishes ala Mamak.

The restaurant was clean but there was abit of a problem, they only had tables for 4. There was alot of tension at the table.

Based on the experience from the guys who had been here, they suggested that we try the Cendol Nangka. Its basically the plain ol Cendol with the addition of Jackfruit. With 28 types of Cendols and 19 sub species of ABC, it took us about 15 minutes to decide what to have for that hot afternoon.

Marwan picked Cendol Biasa.
Meor tried the Cendol + Kacang Merah + Jagung + Ice Cream
Amir had once tried Cendol Nangka and wants to go for another round.
Deen wanted Cendol Nangka as well.
Minnesota went for the Cendol + Kacang Merah + Jagung + Pulut.
Since there was no description next to Wahab's Special, I thought, hey surprise me old man.

It took them quite some time to send our orders over.

Marwan's. The classic Cendol

Meor's. The ones with ice cream are not common at road side stalls.

Minnesota's. The classic road side special.

Deen's and Amir's. The Cendol Nangka.

Mine took forever to arrive. Then as I put out my cigarette, the order taker walks carefully to our table with this in his hands.
The Poseidon of all Cendol. The Crown Jewel. Le Trophy. The Showpeice Trophy.

But then immediately I realised, this is kinda too much for a Cendol. It has too much of everything and too much of anything is not good. While the boys looked at me with envy, I struggled with every spoon. Much that I hated the feeling, with the thought of the price tag that was gonna come later, I pushed myself as far as I can.

Too much of anything is never good. But really, what really inspired ol Pak Wahab to mix in bananas, tapai, pulut, barleys. ice cream, santan, condensed milk, syrup and ice, all in one bowl. A Cendol Pisang would be nice. A Cendoi Tapai would be awesome. Cendol Ice Cream would be great for the kids.

But everyfucking thing on the ingredient list? And call it the Special Item? That is so original.

And what is it with Malaysian food sold at stalls naming their special dish "special" when they only cook it with egg (for burgers) and put everything in it, like the Cendol that I had. Pfft.

DS and LA: Marking Their Territory

While friends of Liyana Atiqah came over to her house as early as they could in pink, Deen's high school friends took their own sweet time. This is what greeted them.

20th October 2013 marked an important date in Deen and Liyana's life calender- they got engaged! Like any other traditional Malay engagement ceremony, both sides of the family would gather (usually the male's side would come to visit the female's house) and discuss on things like; date of the wedding, dowry and other raising matters pertaining to the soon to be celebrated couple.

Technically, we missed the important parts of the event but definitely not the food.

Walking down memory lane, here is a brief of their love story:
2004- They first met during Matriculation but Liyana was with another guy.
2009- According to Deen, this is when he kicked off "The Project", but often Liyana would turn done Deen because she saw no "current".
Oct 2012- First date together, ironically to attend Liyana's ex boyfriend's wedding.
Oct 2013- Got engaged.

Liyana's thoughts on Deen,"He never gave up and he started off with my parents first".
Deen's thoughts on  Liyana,"I like her".

Whatever their reasons are, we're all glad that they found each other. Can't wait for the big day.
